Passengers in East Vancouver

Unveiled at Surrey Art Gallery, Passengers in East Vancouver (re)memories the Komagata Maru incident through artist-led AI interpretations of curated archives.

The work examines how we negotiate our identities in the face of being othered, particularly when adaptive strategies such as camouflage erode the very essence of selfhood. Pari asks, How do “others” navigate spaces not designed with them in mind? How do they reclaim their sense of belonging within such spaces? / Pari

Awarded First Prize in the Juried Exhibition at Surrey Art Gallery, Passengers in East Vancouver is part of a larger collection exploring the interplay between the “artificial” and the “alien,” and interrogating othering as a colonial legacy.
